2024 Spring Application Guide for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship of Lanzhou University

For the purpose of satisfying the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) to focus on training qualified overseas Chinese teachers. Lanzhou University welcomes all related institutions to recommend outstanding students and Chinese teachers to study at here.
ELIGIBILITY
a) Non-Chinese citizens;
b) Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;
c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with a good record of academic performance and conduct;
d) Aspiring to work in the Chinese language education and related fields;
e) Aged between16 and 35 (as of 1st September, 2023), with the special allowance for the age limit of 45 for applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers.
SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFICATIONS
One-Semester Study(16-35 years old)
The programme commences in March 2024, and provides scholarship of a maximum of five months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.
For the areas of TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy, etc., applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.
For the area of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture, applicants are required to provide HSK test scores. Priority will be given to applicants who also provide HSKK test scores.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Online registration need to be completed on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship application website (http://www.chinese.cn). At the same time, applicants need to complete online application on Lanzhou University International Student Online Application Platform (https://apply.lzu.edu.cn/en/site/login). Application steps are as follows:
For International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Application Website
a) Log on to the scholarship website (http://www.chinese.cn) to check the recommending institutions and host institutions and register an account (scholarship program category: Check International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship.).
b) Upload application materials and submit online
c) Track the application progress, comments and results (Please fill in correct email address and phone number, check your email frequently, Lanzhou University will contact you for future interviews)
Scholarship holders need to confirm with Lanzhou University to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the scholarship certificate online, and register at Lanzhou University on the designated date as per the letter of admission.
For Lanzhou University International Student Online Application System
a) Log on to website (https://apply.lzu.edu.cn/en/site/login) to register an account
b) Upload application materials and submit online. In addition to the materials required by the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship application website, you must also upload:
Foreigner’s Physical Examination Form. Original forms must be presented when you come to register. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner’s Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. In view of the fact that the inspection result is valid for 6 months, the applicant shall determine the time for the medical examination.
Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application. If the applicant is unable to provide this document, as a substitute, the applicant could sign a non-criminal record commitment (Attachment).
c) Submit application online
The Application Deadlines (Beijing Time) :
a) For programmes commencing in March 2024, applicants must complete their applications before 15 November, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before 25 November.
CLEC will entrust an expert panel to review the applications. Decisions will be made based on HSK and HSKK scores and levels, and in consideration of country distribution as well as other factors. The results will be published about three months before school starts.
Policies Regarding Chinese Bridge Award Recipients
Applicants who have won the During the study period International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate in various Chinese Bridge competitions should submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to relevant host institutions on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
All materials provided by the applicant should be in Chinese or English, and must be scanned and submitted online
A. For all applicants:
a) A scanned copy of passport photo page;
b) A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity);
c) A reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions.
B. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employer.
C. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.
Coverage for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
The Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fees, accommodation fees, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance expenses (Students need to buy third-party liability insurance for RMB 100/semester or RMB 200/year themselves).
OTHERS
a) Students who have been admitted should follow the admission requirements of Lanzhou University and register on time, The specific time will be based on the Admission Notice.
b) Students who fail to pass the pre-enrollment medical examination, withdraw from school midway, or fail to report to school or suspend their studies without permission will be disqualified for scholarship.
c) Students who are enrolled before the 15th (or on the 15th) of the month are entitled to the full allowance of that month while those who enroll after the 15th of that month are entitled to half of the amount.
d) During the study period, for any student who is absent from China due to personal reasons for more than 15 days (excluding winter and summer holidays), the allowance during absence will be suspended.
e) Scholarship students who are suspended, withdrawn or disciplined by the host institution due to personal reasons will have their living expenses suspended from the date of suspension, withdrawal or receiving the punishment notice.
f) The living allowance for the month of graduation will be granted half a month after the date of graduation or expiration day of the study confirmed by host institutions.
